Splurge Vs. Steal Beauty Products

Splurge Vs. Steal Beauty Products

When I was a makeup obsessed teenager, nothing got me more hot and bothered than flipping through beauty magazines and seeing a "Splurge vs. Steal" article. I would get out a pen and paper and make a list of all the products I could afford with my babysitting money to recreate the looks in my own bedroom. Well, here I am, almost 20 years later, with my OWN "Splurge vs. Steal" list gathered from my vast and ever-growing knowledge of the beauty industry. I have personally used every single item on this list and can attest to the "splurges" being oh-so-dreamy in every which way. However, the "steals" are pretttttty damn good. If you do have the opportunity to treat yourself to the pricier products, by all means, DO IT. You won't be disappointed. However, if you are short on scrilla but still need to fix up that mug of yours, here are some much more "pocketbook friendly" choices that are pretty impressive in their own right. What are your favorite beauty products? Do you have any drugstore versions you love when you're saving money?

1. YSL Faux Cils "Shocking" mascara versus L'Oreal Paris Telescopic Shocking Extensions masacara (Note: I use "02" in YSL and "Blackest Black" in L'Oreal). If you have a Nordstrom in your area, make sure to check with the Cosmetics department to see if they still do "Mascara Madness" which they typically do in May. If so, all mascaras in the department are "buy 2, get 1 free" which includes ALL lines (mix and match away, baby!)
4. Make Up Forever HD Microfinish Powder versus Nyx Cosmetics Studio Finishing Powder
5. Make Up Forever HD Invisible Cover Foundation versus Revlon Photo Ready Makeup SPF 20 (Note: I use "118 Flesh" in Make Up Forever and "03 Shell mixed with 04 Nude" in Revlon)
6. Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Color Balm versus Revlon Color Stay Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain
7. YSL Touche Eclat Radiant Touch versus Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer (Note: I mix No. 2 Luminous Ivory and No. 2.5 Luminous Vanilla in YSL and "Buff" and "Ivory" in Maybelline)
8. Urban Decay Naked Eyeshadow Palette versus NYX Cosmetics The Natural Eyeshadow Palette and The Smokey Eyeshadow Palette (Note: If you buy both the "Natural" and "Smokey" palettes in Nyx cosmetics, it covers almost all of the colors represented in the Urban Decay palette and it is still less expensive)
9. YSL Creme de Blush versus Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush (Note: I use "No. 2 Powdery Rose" in YSL and "Fresh Pink" in Maybelline)
10. Bobbi Brown Face Touch Up Stick versus L'Oreal True Match Super-Blendable Crayon Concealer (Note: I use "#02 Sand" in Bobbi Brown and "Fair/Light Warm" in L'Oreal)
15. Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner versus Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner (Note: I use black in both lines. But the "Steel Ink"color in Bobbi Brown is a more wearable gunmetal-y, charcoal gray that is SO gorgeous).
